The trade dispute between the United States and China caused by increased protectionism is further escalating and casts a shadow over the world economy, especially in East Asia where open markets keep growth higher than the rest of the world. It is important for Japan, Australia, and Southeast Asian countries to explore policy responses that preserve the open rules-based economic order, and further promote liberalization of trade and investment.
In cooperation with the Australia-Japan Research Center of The Australian National University, ERIA (East Asia-ASEAN Economic Research Center), experts such as former Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, the G20 Sherpa of the Australian Government, RIETI researchers and METI officials will discuss strategic responses from Asian countries for keeping the international economy open.
